Editorial Policy

How we make our guides, how we choose products, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

How we create guides

Each guide is researched from multiple reputable hobbyist and manufacturer sources. Care parameters — tank size, temperature, pH, hardness, diet — are cross-checked across sources before publishing, and every guide is reviewed by the aquanerd Editorial team before it goes live.

How our tools work

Tools like the Tank Builder run on transparent, rules-based logic (for example, heaters sized at roughly 3–5 watts per gallon, and shrimp-safe sponge filtration). There is no hidden scoring — every recommendation comes with the reason behind it.

How we choose products

Product recommendations are based on specifications, suitability, and research — chosen to fit your tank, not to maximize commission. aquanerd earns affiliate commissions (see our disclosure), but those commissions do not influence which products we recommend.

What we do not do

We do not publish fake reviews, invented user testimonials, or claim hands-on testing we have not actually done. When a recommendation is based on research rather than first-hand testing, we treat it as such.

Accuracy and corrections

Every guide shows a last-updated date, and we revise guides as products and best practices change. If you spot an error, email hello@aquanerd.co and we will review and correct it.

Scope

aquanerd provides educational information about the aquarium hobby. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified aquatic veterinarian, especially where the health of live animals is concerned.
